Circular Bike Store and Recycled Plastic Planters
Circular Design in Action
Blueprint Regeneration asked Future Makers to create a communal bike store using surplus materials from their Nottingham construction site.
The result was a modular facility at Trent Basin using less than 10% new material, including reclaimed timber and recycled plastic cladding, planters and roof trays. The project also led to the development of the FM Modular Planter System.
Circular Design in Action
The project brought together surplus and reclaimed materials to create a 16-space secure bike store while supporting biodiversity and active travel.

Every element was designed for repair, reuse and long-term adaptability, demonstrating a practical approach to low-impact circular construction.
Designed for Biodiversity and Reuse
The modular living roof helps retain rainfall, reduce urban heat and support biodiversity, while the demountable structure allows the bike store to be reused or adapted.
The project demonstrates how surplus materials can become durable, community-facing infrastructure while supporting BNG, ESG and SuDS goals.

Introducing the Modular Planter System
The project led to the development of the FM Modular Planter System, made from the same 100% recycled plastic as the bike store cladding.
Designed for urban regeneration and public spaces, the modular planters can be used individually, combined into larger arrangements or configured as benches and barriers.
