Future Makers worked with MJ’s Event Services Ltd to transform recyclable Rewind® event carpet into award-winning furniture.
The project brought together circular design, material development and manufacturing to give post-event carpet a new life as the Rewind® Edition Chair.
Turning Rewind® Carpet Into Circular Furniture
Future Makers recovered, granulated and thermoformed post-event Rewind® polypropylene carpet in our Nottingham studio, transforming it into the award-winning Rewind® Edition Chair.
With limited UK recycling options for this material, the project demonstrated how event carpet can be processed locally and turned into durable furniture rather than exported for processing.
Blu Sky Technical Services Ltd later enabled the carpet to be pelletised, supporting a more complete circular process and opening up opportunities for future recycled furniture projects.
Recognition for Innovation: David Williams Award 2025
The British Plastics Federation and The Worshipful Company of Horners awarded the project the 2025 David Williams Award for social contribution and innovation in plastics.
The project brought together MJ’s Event Services Ltd, Blu Sky Technical Services Ltd, designer Tom Hughes and 2HD Architecture Workshop, demonstrating what can be achieved through collaboration, circular design and material innovation.
